Cynognathus fue un reptil mamíferoide del grupo de los terápsidos, Vivió durante el Triásico, y sus fósiles se han encontrado en China, Sudáfrica, Argentina y la Antártida. Aunque tenía vibrisas y posiblemente pelo, no era un mamífero.
